Directions
To reach the trail, from St. George, head west to the far end of end Santa Clara until you reach Gates Lane, or just before the Jacob Hamblin House. Continue until you reach a dirt road where you can park, or if you have 4WD you can take the dirt road and get a little closer to the Trailhead. Once on the dirt road, there is a fork in the road. Go right until you come to the Cove Wash Trailhead.
Description
Whether you want to go for a trail run, get out biking, or go hiking, the popular Barrel Roll Trail in the Santa Clara River Reserve is a great trail close to town. You’ll enjoy some great views of Snow Canyon, the beautiful red Navajo cliffs, as well as the Pine Valley Mountains and enough obstacles to keep you on your toes while biking. Not for the novice rider, at about 3 miles in, you need to navigate your way through a technical section with climbs and fun descents over rocks, but to balance it out, the rest of the time, you’ll ride on mostly flat, rocky singletrack. To get the most out of the trail, ride it clockwise. While it intersects with several other trails, Barrel Roll is marked very well. For a longer ride and a bit more challenge, try adding Precipice and Sidewinder. There is no shade, so it’s best to come before the heat.
