Description
A local favorite northeast of St. George, the beautiful Hidden Pinyon trail will take you into the heart of Snow Canyon State Park below the Petrified Dunes and directly to the Hidden Pinyon Overlook. A short hike, it’s easy to get around and learn about the local plants and animals thanks to the markers on the trail.
You start out on a sandy section of the trail, but soon you’ll find yourself in an area of small canyons surrounding large sandstone formations. Be ready for a few more strenuous places as you climb up to the top and over sand and sharp lava rock. In fact, most of the trail is fairly uneven and rocky but the red Petrified Dunes are amazing and definitely a must-see! If you bring your children, ensure that they are with a strong adult as they might need help in the steep parts.
You might find light traffic, giving you an opportunity to swap notes with fellow hikers. Be sure to bring plenty of water.
