Directions
You can reach Sidewinder via the Barrel Roll or the Precipice Trail. To reach it from St. George, head west to the far end of end Santa Clara until you reach Gates Lane, or just before the Jacob Hamblin House. Continue until you reach a dirt road where you can park, or if you have 4WD you can take the dirt road and get a little closer to the Trailhead. Once on the dirt road, there is a fork in the road. Go right until you come to the Cove Wash Trailhead.
Description
Nice on it’s own, or in addition to Santa Clara’s Barrel Roll Trail, Sidewinder is a little more challenging. Expect more climbs and sindwinding, and you’ll be rewarded with a fun ride down. Enjoy the scenic viewpoint with truly inspiring views of beautiful the Southern Utah landscape, with the Snow Canyon and Pine Mountains in the distance and the red rock cliffs in the foreground. Those familiar with the trail suggest taking the loop at the top of the mesa in a counterclockwise direction. Use it to get to Suicidal Tendencies.
Be sure to bring plenty of water, and to stay on the trail to protect the cryptobiotic soil on the mesa.
