The West Canyon trail is located in Snow Canyon State Park, so there is a small fee to enter the park. From St. George, head north on Bluff Street and take exit to Red Hills Pkwy/Snow Canyon Pkwy. Turn left onto Snow Canyon Pkwy and travel 3.2 miles until you come to a roundabout. Proceed straight through the circle and continue 0.7 miles. At the next roundabout take the first exit onto Snow Canyon Dr. After passing through the main gate continue around a half a mile. You will see the Sand Dunes trail marker on your left and then the lower parking.
Description
The West Canyon trail is an easy family-friendly scenic double track trail in the beautiful Snow Canyon State Park. It’s a gradual climb on smooth gravel. For most of the journey, you’ll be surrounded by the red and white Navajo sandstone that’s characteristic of the area. This trail is good for all skill levels. Great for hiking, trail running, mountain biking, and horse riding.
The West Canyon trail is a 7.9 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail. This trail takes around 1-3 hours to complete. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
The West Canyon trail is fairly straight and wide with gradual altitude change. The trail is actually a hard-packed gravel service road. The small buildings you see every half-mile are water pumping stations. This smooth and easy scenic route is perfect for families with kids, beginner bikers or for people who want a non-technical trail with great views.
